It has definitely been feeling like fall around here the past few weeks. The weather has become crisp and the leaves have started to turn from green to various shades of orange, red, and yellow. I'm always a little sad to see summer end, but I try to remind myself that autumn brings its own beauty and promise. And knowing the suffering that is going on in the south from the recent hurricanes, I am grateful for the weather I am seeing.
In addition to finding myself baking more when fall comes, I also get the urge to do a little decorating once summer has passed. While I haven't done anything inside quite yet, I have taken the time to put a few things outside on my front porch.
Today I have the pleasure of joining in with some blogging friends for a blog hop organized by Taryn Whiteaker. We are each showing off what we have done outside our homes to hopefully inspire you with what to do to your own this fall.
Links to each person's blog appear at the end of this post.
Last year, I shared my back deck with you during the fall porch tour, but I decided to take you to the front of the house and show what I have done with the entry today. Outside, I like to keep things pretty simple and decorate with natural items like pumpkins, cornstalks, and mums to welcome fall.
It always amazes me how just a few of these items thoughtfully placed can instantly get your house ready for the season. And as you'll see looking through the homes in this tour, no two houses will ever look alike even though we are all "decorating" with the same thing!
When decorating outdoors, I find that this season goes against my normal tendency to keep things neutral. The beauty of what comes from autumn makes it hard to stick to shades of white! Fall is my chance to break out a few pops of color without the fear of it looking like too much as I sometimes do inside the house.
Fall colored mums have been added into pots that had summer annuals in them. Because they were still looking healthy and added a nice contrast to the colorful mums, I left the dusty miller in the the pots to continue growing.
Bright orange pumpkins (some real and some faux) mix with my favorite white ones. Hobby Lobby has the nicest fake pumpkins at an affordable price in my opinion. I always like to scoop some up after Thanksgiving when they are on clearance so that I don't have to feel bad about leaving them to weather outside.
I picked up a new doormat from Lowes when I was there shopping for mums. In my opinion, a fresh looking welcome mat is the one way that anyone can spruce up their entry regardless of the season. It is something you know anyone coming to your door will see and appreciate!
This year, at least in my area, pumpkins and cornstalks seem to be out for sale a little later than normal. Just to keep things real with you here, I actually was unable to pick up my cornstalks from my favorite market in time to do this post, so what you are seeing here has actually been "borrowed" from my aunt who was kind enough for the sake of this post to share ones that had been given to her. #bestauntever
I'm sure that my neighbors were left trying to figure out why I had a fully decorated porch at one point in the day and then it disappeared. The things bloggers will do for a post!
A few pumpkins and mums can do wonders for the front of your house. I hope my post today has given you a little push to get out there and do something to enhance your home's fall curb appeal. You don't have to spend a lot of money or an afternoon decorating to get your home ready for the season.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY TO VISIT MY FRONT PORCH TODAY. NOW BE SURE TO TAKE A FEW MOMENTS AND CHECK OUT WHAT THE OTHER FABULOUS LADIES IN THE TOUR HAVE CREATED AT THEIR OWN HOMES!
