Friday Favorites #3

Can you believe that the last official weekend of summer is here?  It seems like just a few weeks ago the season was just beginning.  As sad as I am to see the warm weather, sunshine, and blooming flowers go, I do always welcome the fall least until the leaves are all gone from the trees and the weather gets cold!  I've got some great fall posts coming in the next few weeks that I'm really excited about.  But for today, I'm sharing some more of my favorite links.  Have a great weekend!

The Beauty of Fresh Garden Vegetables

My friend made another delivery today of some fresh garden vegetables.

Corn on the cob...

more cucumbers....

jalepeno peppers.....

and onions.

There is something about these onions that are just beautiful to me.  They are almost too pretty to eat, don't you think?

If a vegetable could beg for me to take their picture, these would.

So I did.

21 Creative Uses for Chalk Paint

I love chalk paint.  While milk paint seems to be very popular right  now, I have not had the urge to switch over.  Chalk paint gives whatever is painted a great textured finish and the paint can be applied over just about anything.  It dries pretty fast, too, which is a bonus for impatient people like me. And since I started using furniture wax to finish off my projects, I couldn't be happier with using this type of paint for all sorts of projects.

Friday Favorites #2

Good morning!  Friday is here again, so I thought I would share some more of my favorite links from the week.    I'm such an addict when it comes to Pinterest.  There is so much inspiration out there that needs to be spread around and who better to share it with than all of you!  Be sure to share your favorites with me in the comments section below.  Enjoy your weekend, friends!

Must Have Kitchen Tool

Must have kitchen tool.....Bamboo Spider Strainer |

I recently purchased this incredible tool.  It has a couple of different names....Kitchen spider, Chinese strainer, bamboo strainer, wok skimmer.  Whatever the name, it is an incredibly useful utensil to have in the kitchen.

I used it the other day when I was making sauteed cucumbers.  It was so much easier to remove the cucumbers straight from the boiling water with the strainer and add them to the pan of butter.

Otherwise, I would have needed to get the large colander out of the cupboard, put it into the sink, dump one cut up cucumber into the colander, then dump the colander into the pan of butter.  OK.  I admit it is still not a hard job, but it was a lot less steps to use the bamboo strainer!

Sauteed Cucumbers

Farmhouse Makeover for a Vintage Handmade Side Table

French blue painted and distressed table |

The weather has finally cooperated and I have been able to snap some pictures of my painted table....maybe a few too many pictures!  My apologies if you feel I'm getting you a little too up close and personal with a piece of furniture.

Friday Favorites #1

Happy Friday, everyone!  I can't believe how fast this week went!  I had planned on sharing my completed table with you today, but once again the weather has once again not been cooperating.  So, rather than rush to take some pictures, I decided I would share a little of what I've been loving this week. I'd love to know if any of them are your favorites, too!

How to Make Homemade Cream of Celery Soup

Homemade soup always tastes better and is a great way to use fresh, natural ingredients.  This recipe for homemade Cream of Celery Soup can be used in place of opening a can and uses up some of the celery you might have in the refrigerator before it goes bad.

A New Use for an Old Scrub Brush

Do you love finding new uses for old things?  That is part of the fun in hunting for vintage treasures.....seeing what something could be rather than what it is.  My mind is constantly designing and creating, which is why I have such a collection of potential projects!  There are so many things that people used in the past that can be repurposed for our needs now.

Another Fabulous Furniture Find

Happy Monday morning!  I hope that you had a fabulous weekend.  We had some beautiful weather the past two days in my neck of the woods.  It is getting close to that time of the year where you know that you have to savor the great weekends, because before long the fall weather will be moving in.

How to Make an Industrial Farmhouse Vase From Hardware Cloth

Hardware Cloth Vase | #DIY

Good morning friends!  Today I'm sharing another simple DIY with you.  My mind is always trying to figure out how to use common supplies in different ways.  This hardware cloth vase uses, well, hardware cloth!  In case you've never heard of this product before, it is a wire mesh fabric that comes in a roll.  As with ordinary wire, hardware cloth comes in different gauges (or thickness).  It can be purchased at any hardware store or online. I found mine at my local Lowes in the outdoor landscaping section.

10 Ways to Decorate with Empty Thrift Store Frames

Decorating with Empty Thrift Store Picture Frames |

Decorating with empty picture frames can be a great way to add a little personality and interest to your decor without spending much money at all.  When I was staging my desk to share with you a few weeks ago, I used a couple random frames to lean on the desktop.  I realized that I use empty frames quite a bit in my decorating and thought I'd put together a little collection of some great ideas that I've seen.
