about anderson + grant

Do you feel as though the world is telling you that the only way your home can be good enough is if it is perfect?

Your house is supposed to look as though it has been ripped straight from the pages of a magazine....at all times.  The evening meal you place on the table in front of your family should be as complete and well presented as the best Thanksgiving dinner.  And your hands should be always busy constructing complicated DIY projects and crafting elaborate gifts to share with your friends and family.

You are reminded on a daily basis that perfect is the only way to go.  But underneath, you feel like your life is a mess.

  • You are forced to serve processed food from a box to your family because it is quick and easy, and quite frankly, you feel as though you weren't blessed with those genes of being skilled in the kitchen.

  • When it comes time to purchase something for your home, you buy what your friends or favorite bloggers have in order to feel confident you're making the right decision.....but yet, nothing you buy ever comes together in quite the same way.

  • Frustration builds every morning when you are rushing out the door to go to work and realize that what you need for the day is buried by all the clutter that you don't.

  • And even though your days are hectic and busy, you don't seem to be able to get anything done or move ahead.  There is no chance for enjoying the blessings that your life has to offer.

While you wish that you could do better, you don't know how and question where you could even begin to make changes.  You tell yourself that there is a lack of time, money, creativity, or ability that keeps you from experiencing the fulfilling life that others seem to have.  You crave a little simplicity and the feeling of contentedness that comes from being in control of your home, although it always seems just out of your reach.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

The truth is, there is a whole lot of imperfect in our homes right now, and it is made even worse by the constant pressure to be the opposite.  It is time to get back to the basics, focus on what matters most, and find the joy in doing things right, taking your time, and savoring the moment.

I believe that creating the home you desire doesn't have to be so difficult.

You don't need a degree in decorating or the culinary arts, an unlimited budget, or countless uninterrupted hours in your day to create a place that fills your heart with joy.  All you need is a willingness to learn and an eagerness to know how to do things yourself rather than just be inspired by and copy others.

Your journey of creating that "perfect' home begins with understanding the simple things.....the basics of homemaking.

Believe me when I say that I've been where you are now.....

  • Frustrated by not ever feeling as though what I was doing was good enough.
  • Discouraged when making recipes that people claimed were easy and delicious, but not being able to get the same results.
  • Drowning in a disorganized mess of things that I didn't even use.
  • Pressured to decorate my house in a certain way, but not being able to make it cozy or cohesive.
  • And tired of seeing idea after idea on Pinterest, but feeling so overwhelmed that I didn't use any of them at all.

I took a step back and spent some time closely examining why nothing felt meaningful or happened with the ease that it should.  How could I make my home and life better?

What I discovered was that I was going about my day to day living, that search for the elusive perfection, backwards.  I was looking at everyone else's final result and expecting my work to be similar without an understanding of the small pieces that built the big picture.  Perfection was never going to happen if I didn't first learn, experiment, and grow from the ground up.

In order to be confident in my abilities, I went back to the basics and learned simple tips and tricks that could bring me success.  I returned to the joy that could be found from doing everyday things better.  And by quieting all the noise I was hearing that I needed to do more, buy more, and be more, I was able to find the simplicity and perfection at home I was searching for.

"There is no one else I feel the same connection with in style and home and life in general."  Barbara

"Love how down to earth you are and that our place settings don't have to cost tons of dollars...it matters more to be thankful for who and what we have!  Love how you share from heart."  Kendra

"This is a brilliant idea - so simple but so gracious and hospitable!  And of course you've presented it in your gorgeous style.  Thanks for the inspiration!" Richella
