White bowl filled with Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup

During the cold winter months, there is nothing more warm and comforting than to sit down to a steaming bowl of homemade soup for dinner.

While good in a pinch, pouring soup out of a can cannot compare to what you have prepared and seasoned with your own hands. And the house will never smell as good.

While some recipes involve chopping vegetables, making broth, and time spent with a watchful eye at the stove, this one could not be easier.

With the help of a slow cooker, frozen vegetables, and pre-cooked chicken, you'll be able to get supper on the table by 5 even if you have work and child care filling your day.

A Few Things to Keep In Mind When Making This Soup

  • Because this recipe uses precooked chicken, it is a great way to keep Sunday dinner leftovers from going to waste. But, if those are unavailable, cook up a few fresh chicken breasts or thighs before putting everything into the crock pot. Or grab a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store to save yourself time.

  • You can mix and match the vegetables in the soup according to your family's preferences. I like to add a handful each of green beans, corn, carrots, and peas. It is especially nice during the summer and fall when you can use fresh veggies from the garden or farmer's market. But the recipe can be made simpler using a basic bag of mixed vegetables.

  • One reason why homemade soup is great is because you can avoid the chemicals and preservatives in canned varieties. Although this recipe includes canned cream soups for convenience, homemade cream of celery and cream of chicken soup would be even better to make the creamy broth.

Ingredients You'll Need

Listed below you'll find suggestions about the ingredients to buy to make this Chicken Noodle Soup. This is the type of recipe where you can really use what you have on hand in varying amounts and still end up with a delicious soup for lunch or dinner.

For your convenience, a printable recipe option appear further down in this post.

  • Cream Soups: This recipe uses a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of cream of celery to add depth to the flavor. Feel free to substitute two of the same if that is all that you have or make your own homemade cream soups.

  • Cooked Chicken: Save your leftover chicken in the freezer to make this soup later or use freshly prepared chicken.

  • Frozen Vegetables: Add a mix of corn, green beans, carrots, and peas or use a bag of premixed vegetables. Feel free to add more or less of any type based on what you like.

  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper

  • Egg Noodles: You can use the packaged egg noodles available at the grocery store. My preference is Amish-style wide egg noodles because they bring more of a homemade touch to this easy recipe.
