FALL   |   Updated August 31, 2023

The fall season has always made me feel excited for the opportunity to once again start fresh.

Whether it was getting a new box of colored pencils to take with me on the first day of third grade or moving into a new college apartment that needed to be decorated and organized, autumn always meant that I could begin again.

Even now, many years later, I enter into the month of September with a renewed sense of anything being possible because I can once again start with a clean slate.

Much like at the start of a new year, in the fall I enjoy making resolutions to get rid of some bad habits and replace them with good ones.

And just like spring, it is another time perfect for cleaning out and sprucing up. As my summer wardrobe gets replaced by a warmer, cozier version, I empty out those belongings that aren’t fulfilling their purpose any longer.

Hand painted autumn quote printable

With these thoughts in mind, I came across a quote on Pinterest that perfectly sums up my feelings for the fall season…..

“Autumn reminds us how beautiful it is to let things go.”

As the trees lose their leaves and the colorful plants and flowers of summer fade, we are entranced by the beauty of nature around us. While each season is special for different reason, fall is the only one where we enjoy seeing the change of things going away.

I knew that this quote would be the perfect starting point for this year's seasonal printable to share. (You can find all the other free fall printables here.)

Watercolor leaves and paintbrush

In honor of trying to celebrate letting things go this season, I attempted to put my bad habit of perfectionism aside and picked up my paintbrush to create todays printable.

I’ve never tried watercolor, but achieved the same sort of washed effect using watered down acrylic paints. It was actually very therapeutic to work on something that couldn’t be perfect. I gave up control and let my paintbrush dance over the surface of my paper. And I always enjoy doing a bit of fancy decorative handwriting, so I wrote out the meaningful quote to accompany the muted leaves.

This autumn, I hope that we can all be inspired by the trees letting go of their leaves and let go of a few things of our own, whether they be physical or emotional. Embrace the beauty of the season along with the beauty you can create in your own life.

If you connect with this message and would like a copy of the printable for yourself, feel free to download it using the link below to use in your own fall décor.

As always, this free printable is available for your personal use only and should not be altered in any way or sold for a profit. And if you’d like to share this with a friend, please provide them with a link to this post over just passing along the PDF.

Decorating with Free Fall Printables

If you are home decorator who loves to change your décor seasonally, printables are a great way to keep things fresh without spending much at all. An added benefit is that they take up almost no space in storage.

You could even designate one special frame that you use throughout the year and keep the printables stored inside and rotate them as the holidays come and go! They won’t get damaged and you’ll always know exactly where to find them.

Some suggestions for decorating with this handpainted autumn leaf printable:

  • Place it inside a thrifted frame on a bookshelf with a stack of fall-colored books and rustic pottery holding some faux or gathered leaves.

  • Print it as a smaller size and tie it on to baked goods that you may be gifting this season.

  • Choose a larger frame and mat in an accenting color to really highlight the print somewhere you have a larger space to fill like over a mantel or on the wall.

How I’ve Used this Fall Printable

This year, I’m choosing to keep things a little rustic and have used vintage upholstery nails to tack my original art onto an aged wood panel.

To bring the vignette together, I’ve styled it with a variety of pumpkins, dried oak leaves, gathered acorns, and a metal lantern with lots of patina. A little piece of burlap is added for texture and a vintage book provides just the boost necessary to layer the little display.

How to Print Fall Décor

To download the free Beauty of Autumn printable, click on the link below to be taken to a file that you can print immediately or save to your computer using the icons in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

  • If you aren’t printing it right away, but sure to save it somewhere you’ll be able to easily locate it again. It is really useful to create a special folder specifically for printables so you can keep them organized and accessible year after year in case you ever want to print them out again.

  • You can also send the downloaded file to a local or online print shop like Staples or Vistaprint. This gives you a quality piece of décor for not a lot of money (and you don’t waste your colored ink at home!)

  • If you are printing it out at home, I recommend using white cardstock. It is thicker than normal paper and gives you a more professional, lasting piece of art.

  • You’ll need to trim the 8 ½x11 printed page slightly to fit in your 8x10 frame, or place it in a larger frame with a mat.
