Creating a Display with Vintage Objects

Last week, I shared my vintage fan that was updated with chalk paint for a fresh look.  When putting the post together, I staged a whole display to showcase it and then chose to focus just on the fan in the pictures.  Rather than just delete the pictures, I thought I might as well show you how I changed up my yard sale and thrift store display just by switching out a few pieces.

I'm a person who likes to constantly rearrange things and get bored quite easily with seeing the same decor everyday.  (I'm also a person who hates change in general.  Go figure.)  Sometimes all you need is to add a little something new into a look you've created and move a few things around to give it a whole new feel.  Using the same objects in a different room with different accessories can make it seem like you have a whole new collection to decorate with.

Everything was built on the same painted radio stand table as the previous display.  This piece of furniture has become so useful....well worth the $5 I paid for it!

I also kept the wine jugs from before, but spread them out a bit through the vignette.

Underneath the table is my dough bowl filled with the paper rolls made out of some old books.

My faux boxwood wreath remained, but this time I chose to hang it on wood shutters purchased at the same shop as the fireplace screen from my other display.  One side of the shutters is stained a dark wood color, but the backside is lightly painted a blueish gray color.  I didn't pay attention to that when I snatched them up antiquing, but really love how it worked into the color scheme here.  The slight difference in color from basic wood made all the difference.

To continue with those colors, I added some vintage books in blues, grays, and tans.  Books are great for adding color, texture, and different heights to any group of objects.

And finally, beside my fan, I displayed some old pictures tucked into a scrub brush.  The picture of the two boys is my grandfather (on the right) and his brother.  Isn't that just the most adorable picture ever?  Back then, I doubt many people had the snapshots that we do today of random moments.  But this picture perfectly captures two young boys taking a short break from some dirty playtime.

So that is another display using lots of old items that I've picked up over time. It is so much fun to put together different looks for you here.  I'd love to know whether you like this one or my yard sale display better!
