DIY Fall Leaf Tree

I've become a little obsessed with collecting bits of nature lately on walks through my neighborhood.
Acorns

Leaves

Branches

Pine cones

I feel a bit like a crazy squirrel running around gathering supplies to stock up for winter.

I'm loving the simplicity of decorating with these items this fall.  And from your comments here and throughout social media, along with other blogs I've been reading, it seems like a lot of us are in agreement about including nature in our autumn decor this year.  They were the inspiration for today's post.....

Decorating with Ironstone in the Fall

Simple display for fall with a collection of ironstone and brown transferware. | www.andersonandgrant.com

Out of all the areas that I showed last week in my fall house tour, my favorite was a cupboard filled  with the white pottery that I've been collecting.    It was hard to focus too much on just one area during the tour, so I thought today I'd take a moment and explain my thoughts behind creating a cohesive ironstone display in your fall decor.

Apple Danish Cheesecake

In my eyes, September is all about apples.  And I thought before the month was over I just had to share this recipe for Apple Danish Cheesecake with you.  It is seriously the most delicious dessert you can make this fall and is one of the easiest cheesecakes there is to create.

In case this is your first time here, each Sunday I'm joining some of my blogging friends in posting about my views about how to gain control over your clutter.  Many of us are focusing on things that we learned from The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up* (affiliate link) by Marie Kondo.  The other girls in this series are....

Friday Favorites

Good Friday morning to you all.  I'm so happy to have you stopping by to see some of my favorite things that I've found this week while browsing through the internet.  My hope is that you'll always leave here on Fridays inspired and maybe even introduced to some different blogs.  One of my favorite things to do when I have time is to actually click through the pins I find on Pinterest (crazy, I know!) and browse around some new blogs.  There are times that I can just tell that a specific pin is going to lead me to an inspiring site.   A couple of today's favorites are from my must-read blog list, but a few are from websites I've never visited before and I really enjoyed having a look around a new space.

Neutral Fall Home {Farmhouse Fall Tour of Homes}

Create an interesting fall display using pumpkins, squash, and gourds in shades of green and white. | Farmhouse Fall Home Tour at www.andersonandgrant.com

Happy first day of fall!!!  How lucky am I that the day of my fall home tour falls on the start of the season.  I'm so excited to share what I've put together with you today.

If you are a follower of a+g, then you've been seeing little glimpses of my fall decor already, but today is everything in one place, plus lots of things you haven't seen.

When you are done visiting my home, be sure to visit my friend's homes and see their amazing decor too as part of the Farmhouse Fall Tour of Homes, which started on Monday and runs through the end of the week.  We all have very similar styles, so it is really inspiring to look at what each of these other 14 gals has put together in their own homes.  Everyone's links appear at the end of this post.

Over 25 Ways to DIY a Craft Store Pumpkin

So, today's post was supposed to be for my DIY pumpkin project.  But you know how sometimes plans just don't come together?  The plastic pumpkins are still sitting in my kitchen pumpkin patch in various stages of completion.  But I thought that this was the perfect opportunity to share everyone else's creative ideas for transforming a fake craft store pumpkin into something really unique and special. (And many of these could be done using real pumpkins, too.)

Rustic Pumpkins from Target

These birch bark pumpkins made by Smith & Hawken are the most unique decoration I've seen this fall. | www.andersonandgrant.com

I don't know about you, but there are times when I see something for sale and immediately know I have to have it.  If you follow Liz Marie on instagram, you may recall that that she posted rustic birch bark pumpkins on her feed when they first came into the Target stores.  The minute I saw them, I wanted one (or three).  Problem is that I don't have a Target close to me.  And then went I did get to go, that particular store didn't have any.  Insert my sad face here.

Tidying Accessories + Makeup {The Secret to Decluttering}

Welcome back to the third week in our series on decluttering and sparking joy.  It has been a blast hearing from all of you and seeing the similarities and differences between each of our posts every week.  (I loved the fact that three of us mentioned we found inspiration from this link at Goop website last week.  That was not planned, I assure you!)

Secrets of a Stylist with Viva Designs

I am the type of person who can literally spend 10 minutes trying to pick out the perfect paper towels and napkins while shopping at the grocery store.  These items sit out on the counter and they need to look stylish and mesh with my decor, at least in my opinion.  Normally I end up choosing plain white paper products because the designs just aren't appealing to me.  Obviously I'm not the only one searching for pretty paper towels, though, because Viva® Towels now has a designer line created by Alyssa Milano (Remember "Who's the Boss"?).  Designer paper towels in my favorite brand?....I'm in!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday friends!  I hope that you have all had an amazing week.  This one was a busy one for me trying to get some projects and posts done.  Next Wednesday I'm participating in a Farmhouse Fall home tour so much of my time has been spent trying to prepare for showing off a few spaces for you.  I also finally got around to painting the Hobby Lobby pumpkins I purchased after Thanksgiving last year.  They are looking fantastic and fitting right into my vision.  Isn't it a great feeling when plans actually work out as you expect?!?!

Trip to a Farm Market

When I first settled on my green and cream color palette for this year's fall season, I got a little worried that maybe I had boxed myself into a corner.  Was I going to be able to buy, make, or find enough items for the house in that color scheme and not to look empty.  Living in a part of PA that doesn't seem to sell many white pumpkins or unique fall gourds, I got a little nervous that I was going to have to forego my plan and stick with a more traditional orange pumpkin color.

A Simple Fall Centerpiece {Fall at Home Blog Hop}

Look for interesting gourds, squash, and pumpkins to create a unique centerpiece. | www.andersonandgrant.com

Over Labor Day weekend, I had the opportunity to visit an amazing farm market in the city.  I'll be sharing more about it tomorrow, but it was like this place knew I needed white and green pumpkins and gourds for decorating this year.  (My color theme for this year centers around a neutral color palette.  You can read more about it here.)

Check out this post and learn how to create a Rustic Pumpkin Stand for your home this fall! | www.andersonandgrant.com

Hello everyone!  I'm so excited for you to be here today and join in the first ever Home Depot Virtual Workshop Party.  I was on cloud nine when Kelly from Live Laugh Rowe invited me to join in with her and an amazing group of bloggers.  All 24 of us were asked to create the same project, a rustic pumpkin stand, but style it in our own way for a given room of the house.  The links to everyone's creative take on the pumpkin appear at the end of this post.  The five of us in Kelly's group had the kitchen as our room to use the Rustic Pumpkin Stand.

Your Turn to Shine Link Party #48

Thank you so much for visiting our party today.  Each week I enjoy looking through what everyone has linked up, and I'm hoping that all of you do as well.  I can't even count the number of blogs that I've grown to love through their participation at our weekly party.

Before we get started I'd like to announce that Kendra from Joy in Our Home has decided to take a break from her blog and this party.  While I'm incredibly sad to see her go, I know that spending time with her family has to take priority over blogging.  And it feels good to know that Kendra and I will always be friends whether we are blogging together or not.  That has got to be the most rewarding part of blogging....finding friends from all over the world who share your views and your passions.  You meet girls (and guys!) who completely get you.

A Rustic Green and White Fall

Last year I was completely inspired by a Thanksgiving tablescape on Rooms for Rent.  Bre decorated her table with green pumpkins and mercury glass candleholders.  Absolutely stunning.  It got me thinking almost immediately about what I'd like to do for fall 2015 and I've been planning ever since.

If you saw my post yesterday, you got a glimpse at where my decorating ideas are headed.  But that was just a quick display without me going into full on decorating mode.    There is plenty more to come.

Fall is the perfect season to create a warm and cozy home.
These easy tips will help you accomplish that!

I'm so excited to start digging into some fall craft projects this week.  There have been a lot of things that I've had to get done lately for future projects, so I haven't had a chance to really start getting into the fall spirit yet.  They are complete for the most part, and some of the decorations got put out in the house yesterday so now I am going full steam ahead into fall crafting mode.  My pumpkins are waiting to be painted.

Kickoff to Fall 2015

Happy Labor Day everyone!  I hope you have enjoyed your holiday weekend.

I just got back a little while ago from a weekend shopping trip with my mom.  A little retail therapy is always a good thing!  As short as it was, this was the first real getaway and break I've had all summer.  My laptop stayed at home just so that I would enjoy and relax for a few days.  It felt good to disconnect for a bit.

The Secret to Decluttering {A Journey to Sparking Joy}

I always feel the need to declutter and organize in the fall.  Something inside of me associates the season with new beginnings.  A new school year has always signaled a fresh start.  For that reason, our decluttering series is starting as we enter into the month of September.

When I posted a survey over a month ago, there was a resounding cry for a desire to learn about getting your life back on track.  Ninety-seven percent of you who took the survey said that you are interested in decluttering.  (The survey is still available if you'd like to share your thoughts about what you'd like to learn in this series.  You can visit the post here.)  And over half of you are interested in the book that is taking the world by storm, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo (*affiliate link).

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, everyone!  Today starts the beginning of the end of the summer season.  Can you believe how fast those months went?  The upcoming week looks like it will be warm where I'm at, though, so I'm not giving up on summer quite yet!

I'm out doing some antiquing today with my mom, so there will likely be some great finds showing up here next week.  I don't typically come home empty handed from anywhere!   I hope to share a few of my favorite shops and purchases on my Instagram page over the next few days.

Your Turn to Shine Link Party #47

Hello friends!  Welcome to another week of Your Turn to Shine.  I'm excited to see what everyone links up this week.  Do you enjoy seeing all the creative projects, too?

Before we get started with our party, can I just say that I'm overwhelmed the thumbs down response to yesterday's post on deconstructed chairs.  Obviously this is not a trend that my readers want to see continue!  I'm still totally on the fence about my opinion and am thinking it depends more on the actual chair and situation.  But, I loved that so many of you wanted to chime in and give your thoughts.  I'll have to do some more posts like that to get some more of you talking!  It is great to see comments.

The Deconstructed Chair Trend | Yea or Nay

There seems to be a new trend in furniture of having chairs that are deconstructed.  Rather than perfectly upholstered pieces, we're seeing chairs that look as though they are waiting for the next step in the upholstery process.  I'm honestly not sure how I feel about the look.  Part of me loves the pretty (aka expensive) Restoration Hardware chairs, but some make me feel like the trend has gone too far.
