Friday Favorites #3

Can you believe that the last official weekend of summer is here?  It seems like just a few weeks ago the season was just beginning.  As sad as I am to see the warm weather, sunshine, and blooming flowers go, I do always welcome the fall season.....at least until the leaves are all gone from the trees and the weather gets cold!  I've got some great fall posts coming in the next few weeks that I'm really excited about.  But for today, I'm sharing some more of my favorite links.  Have a great weekend!

The Beauty of Fresh Garden Vegetables

Fresh garden onions | www.andersonandgrant.com

My friend made another delivery today of some fresh garden vegetables.

Corn on the cob...

tomatoes...

more cucumbers....

jalepeno peppers.....

and onions.

There is something about these onions that are just beautiful to me.  They are almost too pretty to eat, don't you think?

If a vegetable could beg for me to take their picture, these would.

So I did.

Creating a Basket out of an Old Pot

An old saucepot has been turned into a decorative storage basket....fast and easy DIY! | www.andersonandgrant.com

There are days when I want to create, but feel overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that I have purchased to DIY....too many choices to work on with no clue what to do with anything.  Normally during those times, I go shop for more so that I can feel inspired by something new.  And yes, this just makes the problem worse!  Yesterday, though, rather than going to my local Goodwill to find something to create for you, I went to the pile of stuff in my basement that I was going to be donating to Goodwill.  I got to "shop" through things that I wasn't seeing any value in anymore.  Not only did this avoid adding more finds to my stock, but it was free!

21 Creative Uses for Chalk Paint

I love chalk paint.  While milk paint seems to be very popular right  now, I have not had the urge to switch over.  Chalk paint gives whatever is painted a great textured finish and the paint can be applied over just about anything.  It dries pretty fast, too, which is a bonus for impatient people like me. And since I started using furniture wax to finish off my projects, I couldn't be happier with using this type of paint for all sorts of projects.

Tour Through Blogland

I'm so excited today to introduce you to four amazing bloggers, as well as share a little bit about myself.  You may have noticed a tour going around on your favorite blogs, and I have been lucky enough to be invited to participate.  This Tour of Blogland is a fantastic way to get a little glimpse of some great blogs you may not be aware of!

I'd like start by thanking Adrienne from Chic California for inviting me.  She shares some amazing projects and creative ideas on her blog.  She enjoys transforming furniture and finding great treasures, which, or course, I love!  Right now she is beginning the process of designing her craft room and I can't wait to see it when the room is done.  Be sure to take a glance at her project gallery to get a good idea of the projects she creates.

Friday Favorites

Good morning!  Friday is here again, so I thought I would share some more of my favorite links from the week.    I'm such an addict when it comes to Pinterest.  There is so much inspiration out there that needs to be spread around and who better to share it with than all of you!  Be sure to share your favorites with me in the comments section below.  Enjoy your weekend, friends!

Must Have Kitchen Tool

Must have kitchen tool.....Bamboo Spider Strainer | www.andersonandgrant.com

I recently purchased this incredible tool.  It has a couple of different names....Kitchen spider, Chinese strainer, bamboo strainer, wok skimmer.  Whatever the name, it is an incredibly useful utensil to have in the kitchen.

I used it the other day when I was making sauteed cucumbers.  It was so much easier to remove the cucumbers straight from the boiling water with the strainer and add them to the pan of butter.

Otherwise, I would have needed to get the large colander out of the cupboard, put it into the sink, dump one cut up cucumber into the colander, then dump the colander into the pan of butter.  OK.  I admit it is still not a hard job, but it was a lot less steps to use the bamboo strainer!

sauteed cucumbers

Need a new side dish to accompany dinner? Try this recipe for sauteed cucumbers with dill. | www.andersonandgrant.com

There has been a massive number of cucumbers in my house the past few weeks because a friend has been generous enough to share from his garden.  I'm really not a huge cucumber fan and there are only so many slices that you can add to a salad.  I needed something new to do with my fresh vegetables.

My Ballard Designs Shopping List

I got the newest catalog from Ballard Designs a few weeks ago and finally got around to leafing through it yesterday.

I'm normally not a huge fan of this company....not because they don't have beautiful furniture and unique products, but because they are a bit pricey for my budget.  And most of the time, they don't have things that I feel really fits into my style.  But this time, from the moment that I opened to the first page, I was in love.

I thought that I needed to share some of those things with you today to spread the love.  This is not a sponsored post....I get nothing from sharing these items with you.  I just really like some of the items Ballard Designs has for sale!

Why don't you flip through the catalog with me?

Painting a Vintage Table

The weather has finally cooperated and I have been able to snap some pictures of my painted table....maybe a few too many pictures!  My apologies if you feel I'm getting you a little too up close and personal with a piece of furniture.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, everyone!  I can't believe how fast this week went!  I had planned on sharing my completed table with you today, but once again the weather has once again not been cooperating.  So, rather than rush to take some pictures, I decided I would share a little of what I've been loving this week. I'd love to know if any of them are your favorites, too!

Totally Homemade Green Bean Casserole .... Well, Almost

I love green bean casserole.  As popular as it is around Thanksgiving and Easter, I like to have it year round.  It is easy to throw together and is such a tasty way to serve a vegetable.  My recipe has a few special ingredients that add so much flavor to this traditional dish.  At the end of the meal, there shouldn't be a single bean left in the dish!

How to Make Cream of Celery Soup

Homemade Cream of Celery Soup.....So simple to make! | anderson + grant

There is no comparison in taste between homemade soup of any flavor verses store bought.  Canned soup is convienent but not very healthy.  Have you ever looked at the ingredients that are in a can of cream soup?  I like knowing what is going into my food, and many things listed on the ingredients list are things that I've never heard of.  The good news is that cream of celery soup is really easy to make!

A New Use for an Old Scrub Brush

Do you love finding new uses for old things?  That is part of the fun in hunting for vintage treasures.....seeing what something could be rather than what it is.  My mind is constantly designing and creating, which is why I have such a collection of potential projects!  There are so many things that people used in the past that can be repurposed for our needs now.

Another Fabulous Furniture Find

Happy Monday morning!  I hope that you had a fabulous weekend.  We had some beautiful weather the past two days in my neck of the woods.  It is getting close to that time of the year where you know that you have to savor the great weekends, because before long the fall weather will be moving in.

Hardware Cloth Vase

Hardware Cloth Vase | www.andersonandgrant.com #DIY

Good morning friends!  Today I'm sharing another simple DIY with you.  My mind is always trying to figure out how to use common supplies in different ways.  This hardware cloth vase uses, well, hardware cloth!  In case you've never heard of this product before, it is a wire mesh fabric that comes in a roll.  As with ordinary wire, hardware cloth comes in different gauges (or thickness).  It can be purchased at any hardware store or online. I found mine at my local Lowes in the outdoor landscaping section.

Sun-Dried Tomato and Bacon Sandwich Spread

Sun-dried Tomato and Bacon Sandwich Spread | www.andersonandgrant.com

Bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches are a basic, easy to make food that most people find delicious.  A juicy tomato right from the garden, some freshly cooked bacon, and a green leaf of lettuce layered between two slices of bread with a spread of mayo.  Is your mouth watering?  Well, today I'm sharing an even more delicious twist on this traditional favorite!

Decorating with Empty Thrift Store Frames

Decorating with Empty Thrift Store Picture Frames | www.andersonandgrant.com

Decorating with empty picture frames can be a great way to add a little personality and interest to your decor without spending much money at all.  When I was staging my desk to share with you a few weeks ago, I used a couple random frames to lean on the desktop.  I realized that I use empty frames quite a bit in my decorating and thought I'd put together a little collection of some great ideas that I've seen.
