I enjoy a mix of new and old when it comes to music at Christmas time. There are some songs you just have to listen to at Christmas time because they've been played for so many years. Others are new and fresh and something a little different.
My two all-time favorite songs are very traditional and while I know that there have been many remakes of both, I prefer the old versions.....
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas sung by Judy Garland
and I'll Be Home For Christmas sung by Bing Crosby
For the religious side of Christmas, I love What Child is This? There are so many versions of this song out there, but I love the slow versions that allow you to really pay attention to the words and meaning of the song.
Some of my favorite "new" Christmas songs are....
Newsong singing "The Christmas Shoes" (This one always brings a tear to my eyes.)
Rob Thomas singing "A New York City Christmas "
Amy Grant with "A Christmas To Remember"
Trans-Siberian Orchestra with "Carol of the Bells"
And for the kid in all of us....
I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas sung by Gayla Peevey
My favorite Christmas CD is Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong. She has such an amazing, unique voice and puts a unique twist on even the traditional songs. I love the entire CD, but my favorites are....
and Song For A Winter's Night
And new for this Christmas, Kelly Clarkson has come out with a new CD, Wrapped in Red. It's a mix of new and old songs. I'm loving the song Winter's Dream.
Now that I've shared my favorite Christmas songs with you, what are some of yours?
Be sure to check back tomorrow to see what I do with this toolbox and these rusty screwdrivers!
